Javier Ramírez had only seen penguins on TV. That changed at 34 years old, on January 24, 2021, when he arrived on Deception Island, Antarctica. This 34-year-old is the first Nicaraguan at the “Gabriel de Castilla Base” (WAP ESP-Ø2), one of the two Spanish bases located on Decepción Island in the South Shetland Islands Archipelago, in Antarctica. Ramírez was part of the XXXIV Spanish Antarctic Campaign along with 17 other people, including soldiers and scientists. JANUARY 17, 2021 – Starting mid-February 2021 (lasting 90 days), Tom is returning to Wake Island. Activity again expected on 40 / 20m SSB when time permits.

NOVEMBER 2, 2020 – Tom, NL7RR is a contractor working on Wake island. His KH9/NL7RR operation is time permitting, but does hope to operate (daily) between 06:00 – 08:00 UTC on 20 or 40 SSB. At this time, he is travelling to Hawaii for a week-long rest then returning to Wake.

Glenn, AL7JX got in touch to say that he and Tom, NL7WK are assisting Tom with LoTW uploads and QSL duties, both of which should be available soon; cards are being worked on and printed.

Following info is provided by Mats, RM2D / SM6LRR on his upcoming activity from Alif Alif Atoll, Maldives.

My next planned operation will be March 28th – April 10th 2021. Holiday-style DX operation on mainly 40-15 meters CW, but with some SSB as well.

Main bands of operation this time are thought to be 40-15 meters. Predominately CW but with some SSB opportunities as well.

This is a NON-FT8/FT4 expedition!

Equipment will be decided later, but license is valid for several radios (Lab599 TX-500, Elecraft KX-3 and Kenwood TS 590S), as well as Expert 1.3 K-FA.

Antennas will be either Inverted Vees or 1/4-wave verticals on Spiderbeam or DX Wire poles.

As this is the first time I visit the location, it is still uncertain how signal environment will be. Antennas will be limited to the roof of the building where we will stay, meaning that I am not at all sure which bands I may accommodate. Most likely, no 160/80 meter operation.
