It’s a real sad news for the whole WW DX Community and in particular to us of WAP, learning of the death of a long time dear friend; George Georgiy Chliyants, UY5XE from Lviv , Ukraina, has passed away few days ago at the age of 75.
In the early 80es , George has been one of the first founders and promoters of the Russian Robinson Club where he still held the position of consultant.
It was George who pushed me in 1993 at the IOTA convention in Torremolinos (Spain) to introduce the RRC in that important WW event. Today, thanks also to George, RRC has over 2000 members
UY5XE was active Radio Amateur, holder of many amateur radio awards active DXer and Contester, 
keen activator of arctic islands and QSL manager of many of the Russian expedition in the Arctic and Antarctica.
Author of books about radio amateurs and the history of the radio amateur community.
We will miss his friendship but we are certain that he will watch us from the heaven and watch over friendship between peoples in the spirit that distinguishes The Ham Radio world.

C’est une bien triste nouvelle pour toute la communauté WW DX et en particulier pour nous de WAP, apprentissage de
la mort d’un ami de longue date ; George Georgiy Chliyants, UY5XE de Lviv, Ukraine, est décédé il y a quelques jours à l’âge de 75 ans.
Au début des années 80, George a été l’un des premiers fondateurs et promoteurs du Russian Robinson Club où il occupait encore le poste de consultant.
C’est George qui m’a poussé en 1993 à la convention IOTA à Torremolinos (Espagne) pour introduire le RRC dans cet important événement WW .
Aujourd’hui, grâce également à George, RRC compte plus de 2 000 membres
UY5XE était radioamateur actif, détenteur de nombreux prix de radio amateur actif DXer et Contester,
activateur passionné des îles arctiques et responsable QSL de nombreuses expéditions russes dans l’Arctique et l’Antarctique.
Auteur de livres sur les radioamateurs et l’histoire de la communauté des radioamateurs.
Son amitié va nous manquer mais nous sommes certains qu’il nous regardera du ciel et veillera sur l’amitié entre les peuples dans l’esprit qui distingue le monde de The Ham Radio.

Notre retour dans le Pacifique est prévu pour l’automne 2023

[NEWS UPDATE] – Our return to the pacific is scheduled for the fall of 2023. With the help of Jared N7SMI and John KK7L, important details for Tuvalu – T2 could be
clarified. It is really difficult to find perfect antenna opportunities on Funafuti island.
As of July 2023, we have all permits in hand. Accommodation as well as flights for our planned destination in October 2023 are booked and confirmed. This
means we are ready to announce a new serious and lightweight expedition to Tuvalu.
The team consists largely of members of the 2022 P29RO expedition, supplemented by new experienced OPs. We are all looking forward to October 10 to be on the air on with the call sign T2C
until October 30. Members are Ronny DG2RON, Fred DH5FS, Olaf DJ7TO, Werner DJ9KH, Joe DK5WL, Frank DL1KWK, Georg DL4SVA, Christian DL6KAC, Axel DL6KVA, Olaf DL7JOM, Rolf DL7VEE and Andree
DL8LAS. Some team members will leave a few days earlier.
It is planned to operate four stations with power amplifiers in CW, SSB, RTTY and FT8 from 160 to 6m, including 60m, 24 hours a day. We will use our private equipment. The focus lies –
given the current state of the solar cycle – on the higher bands.

[JULY 3] – The KH8RRC – W1AW/KH8 team is looking for a little help from our friends in the Ham community.
As all major expeditions do, we have an operating budget to meet so we can get all equipment to the island and move it to the mountaintop location in the American Samoa National Park. Sadly, today we learned of a logistical change beyond our control which has increased that budget by over 30 percent. Because of this we are making a last-minute plea to our friends around the world to help make this a success buy supporting it in any way you can. Please visit the QRZ page for KH8RRC and slide down to the “Support Us” button and give it a click. Whatever support you may give is appreciated, everything helps us get all needed equipment there and up to the mountaintop in the American Samoa National Park to put out the strongest signals possible. Remember the last big one that was unable to get the amps and big antennas to the site! Well, we’re not swimming but it still takes a lot to get everything shiped and moved upon arrival.
The good news is we may be able to add 160m to our band plan (presently 6 through 80m) if we get creative and lucky! Remember, we and others like us do this for you, the global Ham community. Please help us give as many contacts as possible during our stay on the island.

[JUNE 16] – For those chasing the ARRL VOTA (Volunteers On The Air) activity this year, KH8RRC team will also be operating as W1AW/KH8 between July 12-18
at random times throughout each day; SSB, CW and FT8 or FT4.
[JUNE 11] – Three operators (so far) from the North America branch of the venerable Russian Robinson Club (RRC), Yuri N3QQ, James KB2FMH and Hal W8HC will setup a station
on a mountaintop inside the American Samoa National Park. This time it will be both an IOTA and POTA activity besides the DX entity many seek. Many have activated it as an IOTA entity but this will be the first ever POTA activity on the island. Band and mode plan will be published soon.
NOTE: The RRC hopes to return to American Samoa in 2024 to activate the very rare Rose Atoll (POTA K-0130 / IOTA OC-190).

Timo, OH1NOA will be active from Hiiumaa Island, Estonia IOTA EU-034 as ES1NOA/0 during July 9/10-12, 2023. He will activate some ES0 ESFF-references on 80-10m CW/SSB,
and hopes to activate the base camp on FT8 – the rare locator square KO18 (possibly in the evening of the 9th). ES1NOA operates also from the mainland ESFF on July 12th.
Timo, OH1NOA sera actif depuis l’île de Hiiumaa, Estonie IOTA EU-034 en tant que ES1NOA/0 du 9/10 au 12 juillet 2023. Il activera certaines références ESFF ES0 sur 80- 10m CW/SSB,

H40WA – Province de Temotu

[NEWS UPDATE] – The Intrepid-DX Group is pleased to announce that all of our plans to activate H40 Temotu Province are going well. Due to changes in flight schedules,
we are announcing our operational dates will be from October 26th and we will complete our operations on November 9th.
We have assembled a team of eight operators to make a fifteen-day activation of this entity. Temotu Province ranks #45 on Clublog’s most wanted DXCC list.
Team members include: Rob N7QT, Paul N6PSE, Sandro VE7NY, Jun OE1JUN/JH4RHF, Heye DJ9RR, Al K3VN, Arliss W7XU and David WD5COV. We will make a significant effort on the low bands during
this activation. We will use 1500 watts on the 80/160 meter bands. We will use CW/SSB and FT8 Fox/Hound modes. We plan to be active during the CQ WW SSB Contest October 28th-29th.
As you can imagine, shipping all of our gear, generators etc. to Temotu Province is quite costly. The H40WA Temotu 2023 team appreciates any and all sponsors and donors who wish to support

China has resumed construction of its fifth research facility in Antarctica after a years-long lull.
The report said the new station, on Inexpressible Island at 74° 54′ South, 163° 39′ East, at Terra Nova Bay in the Ross Sea, is expected to include an observatory with a satellite ground station, and should help China “fill in a major gap” in its ability to access the continent, said the report. The fifth Chinese station is located about 26 km from the italian Mario Zucchelli Station (WAP ITA-Ø1), and Jang Bogo Station (WAP KOR-Ø2), then at 390 km Northwest of McMurdo (WAP USA-22) and Scott Base (WAP NZL-Ø1)
Construction is estimated to be finished by 2024.
“The 1959 Antarctic Treaty restricts activities on the continent to “peaceful purposes” and allows military personnel to conduct scientific research, but bans the setting up of bases or carrying out maneuvers or testing weapons”.
Inexpressible Island, located in the Terra Nova Bay of Antarctica’s 
Victoria Land, is a rocky island where the Northern Party of Robert Falcon Scott’s Terra Nova Expedition of 1910 – 1913 was forced to overwinter in 1912.

I’ll be starting a new job, radio will be secondary, and I also don’t know where I will be staying yet. But I’d hope to be on the air by the start of August 2023 in my spare
