VE1RUS and VE3KTB plan to be active from Eureka, Nunavut, NA-008 as VY0ERC approximately from February 4 till April 1. Most favourable bands are 40 and 20m, modes – SSB, digital and very slow CW. QRV when time permits.

As some people may know I was ready to activate 2 IOTAs in March 2018. Actual island names were a secret for a while. Now I can reveal – they are OC-211 and OC-183. Actually I’d planned to do flight bookings, hotel reservation, etc. this coming weekend.
However, today my plans have changed dramatically.
As I mentioned previously planning process doesn’t stop between expeditions and I work on few islands at same time.
As part of that process I had a talk today to an official and have got astonishing news.
Group of rare Australian islands is in a process of management plan change –
“Note that in the event that a management plan for the Marine Park comes into effect during 2018, the requirements of that plan would come into effect immediately.”
Part of the plan is to put more strict control of access to the islands, including total ban on camping.
As such, activation of those islands will be impossible, or possible at local daytime only for many years. However, they are lying more than 300 km from Mainland, well out of way to any DXCC entity. It makes probability of an activation even lower. And, for sure, extremely expensive.
Furthermore, the plan “… has been provided to our Minister for his consideration. It is up to his discretion when they are tabled in Parliament, and then they are subject to approval through parliament. I wouldn’t expect they will come into effect before July 2018, but of course, this could be subject to change.”
Based on all above, I’ve decided to postpone activation of OC-211 and OC-183.
Instead concentrate on OC-265, Cato Reef. Activity in April or May 2018 for 6 days.
I’m ready for such expedition technically, but not financially. Cost of OC-265 activation is doubled compared to cost of OC-211/OC-183.

Comme certaines personnes le savent, j’étais prêt à activer 2 IOTA en mars 2018. Les noms des îles étaient secrets pendant un certain temps. Maintenant, je peux révéler – ce sont OC-211 et OC-183. En fait, j’avais prévu de faire des réservations de vol, réservation d’hôtel, etc. ce week-end à venir.
Cependant, aujourd’hui mes plans ont changé radicalement.
Comme je l’ai mentionné précédemment, le processus de planification ne s’arrête pas entre les expéditions et je travaille sur quelques îles en même temps.
Dans le cadre de ce processus, j’ai eu une discussion aujourd’hui avec un fonctionnaire et j’ai eu des nouvelles étonnantes.
Groupe d’îles australiennes rares est dans un processus de changement de plan de gestion –
« Notez que dans le cas où un plan de gestion pour le parc marin entre en vigueur en 2018, les exigences de ce plan entreraient en vigueur immédiatement. »
Une partie du plan consiste à contrôler plus strictement l’accès aux îles, y compris l’interdiction totale du camping.
En tant que tel, l’activation de ces îles sera impossible, ou possible à la journée locale seulement pendant de nombreuses années. Cependant, ils sont situés à plus de 300 km de Mainland, bien à l’écart de toute entité DXCC. Cela rend la probabilité d’une activation encore plus faible. Et, à coup sûr, extrêmement cher.
De plus, le plan “… a été fourni à notre ministre pour son examen. C’est à sa discrétion quand ils sont déposés au Parlement, et ils sont ensuite soumis à l’approbation du Parlement. Je ne m’attendrais pas à ce qu’ils entrent en vigueur avant juillet 2018, mais bien sûr, cela pourrait changer.”
Sur la base de tout ce qui précède, j’ai décidé de reporter l’activation de OC-211 et OC-183.
Au lieu de se concentrer sur OC-265, Cato Reef. Activité en avril ou mai 2018 pour 6 jours.
Je suis prêt pour une telle expédition techniquement, mais pas financièrement. Le coût de l’activation de l’OC-265 est doublé par rapport au coût de l’OC-211 / OC-183.

Sagar Island is an island in the Ganges Delta, lying on the continental shelf of Bay of Bengal about 100 km South of Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The island is 224 sqkm area. This island, also known as Gangasagar or Sagardwip, is a place of Hindu pilgrimage. Every year on the day of Makar Sankranti (14 January), hundreds of thousands of Hindus gather to take a holy dip at the confluence of river Ganges and Bay of Bengal and offer prayers (puja) in the Kapil Muni Temple.
