Patrick, GW3WCA recently got in touch and we display his email in full.

About 1964 I was the Technical Officer at the Funafuti Meteorological Station, Tuvalu and for about two years, mostly weekends, I operated as VR1S using a National NCX3 transceiver. Now in my 90’s and with no-one to talk to I hope to be operating shortly as GW3WCA. I stumbled across your website when I was looking for ham info – how things have changed!

Great to read that Patrick is looking to get back on air in his 90’s! Certainly is changed days! We’ve asked what equipment he will be using nowadays and hopefully some skeds can be arranged with readers taking part and talking to Patrick, welcoming him back into the hobby.

Patrick, GW3WCA a récemment pris contact et nous affichons son e-mail dans son intégralité.

Vers 1964, j’étais officier technique à la station météorologique de Funafuti, Tuvalu et pendant environ deux ans, principalement les week-ends, j’ai opéré en tant que VR1S en utilisant un émetteur-récepteur National NCX3. Maintenant dans mes années 90 et sans personne à qui parler, j’espère opérer sous peu en tant que GW3WCA. Je suis tombé sur votre site Web alors que je cherchais des informations sur le jambon – comment les choses ont changé !

C’est formidable de lire que Patrick cherche à reprendre les ondes alors qu’il a plus de 90 ans ! Certes, c’est changé de jours ! Nous avons demandé quel équipement il utilisera de nos jours et j’espère que quelques skeds pourront être organisés avec des lecteurs participant et parlant à Patrick, lui souhaitant la bienvenue dans le passe-temps.

W.A.P. Worldwide Antarctic Program

Friedrichshafen is a place to go at least once … Personally (I1HYW) I have been there 35 years ago  more or less and it was amazing to meet lots of DXers and Hamradio friends in a very magic athmosphere.

This year (2023) our friend Volker DL8JDX was there  and we are happy to get pics from him. Volker did meet the cream of the WW DX, those who have marked the last months DX-peditions and activities from rare spots as well as those who have seasoned in Antarctica for a short and long while. (pic on the Left show MØSDV, DL8JDX, MØOXO)

WAP is pleased to share some of the pics with our readers, also because some of the men shown in the pics are really Antarctic Veterans

At the Antarctic Dinner Meeting (pic aside) there were: DK5HH, DM2KX, DL3LRM,  HB9HCF, HB9BRH, DL8JDX, DC1TH, DJ0HO, DL5XL, DK3ZL.  Theresa, DC1TH brought a model of the Neumayer 3 Station to the meeting. She printed all parts of this model with a 3D Printer.

Friedrichshafen at the lake Bodensee (in English translation it is also called lake Constance) is the historical home of Zeppelin airships.

Friedrichshafen est un endroit où aller au moins une fois… Personnellement (I1HYW), j’y suis allé il y a plus ou moins 35 ans et c’était incroyable de rencontrer beaucoup de DXers et amis radioamateurs dans une ambiance très magique.

Cette année (2023) notre ami Volker DL8JDX était là et nous sommes heureux d’avoir des photos de lui. Volker a rencontré la crème de la WW DX, ceux qui ont marqué les derniers mois des expéditions DX et des activités dans des endroits rares ainsi que ceux qui ont aguerri en Antarctique pendant une courte et longue période. (la photo à gauche montre MØSDV, DL8JDX, MØOXO)

WAP est heureux de partager certaines des photos avec nos lecteurs, également parce que certains des hommes montrés sur les photos sont vraiment des vétérans de l’Antarctique

Au dîner-rencontre de l’Antarctique (photo à part), il y avait : DK5HH, DM2KX, DL3LRM, HB9HCF, HB9BRH, DL8JDX, DC1TH, DJ0HO, DL5XL, DK3ZL. Theresa, DC1TH a apporté une maquette de la station Neumayer 3 à la réunion. Elle a imprimé toutes les parties de ce modèle avec une imprimante 3D.

Since the beginning of 2021, the Cambodia government changed the procedure for the licensing of amateur radio. During January 2021 to May 2023 there were no
legal amateur radio stations which were permitted from Cambodia government due to being no way to renew or issue licenses.

After lots of enthusiastic negotiations with the Cambodian government by local ex-license holders, amateur radio licensing has resumed from June 2023.

Tad, JA1DFK got the same XU7AKU callsign in June 2023; previous operation of 2020 as the first licensee for new licensing system in Cambodia.

As the other local ex-license holders are in progress to apply for their new license, they will be on the air in near future for XU7AEY, XU7AKG, XU7AKJ, XU7AKM, XU7AKP and so on.

Depuis début 2021, le gouvernement cambodgien a modifié la procédure d’octroi de licences aux radioamateurs. De janvier 2021 à mai 2023, il n’y a pas eu
stations de radio amateur légales qui ont été autorisées par le gouvernement cambodgien en raison de l’impossibilité de renouveler ou de délivrer des licences.

Après de nombreuses négociations enthousiastes avec le gouvernement cambodgien par d’anciens titulaires de licence locaux, les licences de radio amateur ont repris à partir de juin 2023.

Tad, JA1DFK a le même indicatif XU7AKU en juin 2023 ; opération précédente de 2020 en tant que premier titulaire de licence pour le nouveau système de licences au Cambodge.

Alors que les autres anciens titulaires de licence locaux sont en train de demander leur nouvelle licence, ils seront bientôt en ondes pour XU7AEY, XU7AKG, XU7AKJ, XU7AKM, XU7AKP et ainsi de suite.

With the celebration of the winter solstice in the Southern Hemisphere, the “Antarctic Fellowship Day” is also commemorated in recognition of all Antarctics for their hidden work and shared vocation to maintain Antarctica as a continent dedicated to peace and science.

AUSTRALIA
Eveyone in Antarctica celebrates on june 21st   the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year and the turning point in the long, dark Antarctic winter. Australian Antarctic traditions have a long heritage – in fact it’s been more than 75 years since of the formation of Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE) – now the Australian Antarctic Program. The first ANARE landed on Heard Island (WAP AUS-Ø7) on 26 December 1947. Three months later, Macquarie Island (WAP AUS-Ø8) was established. ANARE led directly to the formation of the ‘Antarctic Division’ in May 1948 and the appointment of Dr Phillip Law as its first ‘Director’ in January 1949. AUSTRALIE
Tout le monde en Antarctique célèbre le 21 juin le solstice d’hiver, le jour le plus court de l’année et le tournant du long et sombre hiver antarctique. Les traditions antarctiques australiennes ont un long héritage – en fait, cela fait plus de 75 ans depuis la formation des expéditions nationales australiennes de recherche antarctique (ANARE ) – maintenant le programme antarctique australienm. Le premier ANARE a atterri sur Heard Island (WAP AUS-Ø7) le 26 décembre 1947. Trois mois plus tard, l’île Macquarie (WAP AUS-Ø8) a été établie.
