NOVEMBER 24 – The Bima DXpedition Team will be active as 7C9B from Sumbawa Island, OC-150 during December 1-10, 2020.
The ten members of the team will be QRV from 10m to 160m in SSB and FT8. Please be patient to give some newcomers the chance for a successful QSO. QSL for this call/activity via DL3KZA.

The entire month of December, several youngsters under the age of 26 will become active with YOTA as suffix in the callsign. The idea behind this is to show the amateur radio hobby to youth and to encourage youngsters to be active on the ham radiowaves.
Usually you hear YOTA stations on air from our summer and subregional camps throughout the year. This season has been an exception. Due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, nearly all our camps and events had to be cancelled. Therefore, nearly no possibilities were left to hear YOTA stations on the bands.
Hence, we as Team YOTA want to show the world that the youngsters still want and can be active on the bands during this difficult time. Help your local youngsters to get on the air throughout the December YOTA Month following your national health guidelines. Either you are a supporting elmer or under 26 years yourself, contact your society’s youth coordinator to be active with your national YOTA callsign. If your society did not apply for one yet, feel free to encourage them to do so of course. It will be a pleasure to work a lot of new youngsters on the bands!
Every ham radio operator can support the youth worldwide! By making a QSO with them, they can improve their skills on air and learn more about geography and ham radio abbreviations, among others. The youngsters will be happy to get some attention and exchange information. Licensed and unlicensed youth will be making QSOs, be aware this could be their first radio contact ever and give them a chance to experience
a possible new hobby.
As every year, there is again an award program available. Work as many YOTA stations on as many bands and modes as possible and be eligible for your Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum award for free. This program promotes the radio activity on the air waves and shows that there is and will be activity in the future. Visit our website for more information about the award rules.
Last year we had high hopes with the QSO goal of 100.000 QSOs. With the help of youngsters within amateur radio, we absolutely crushed the goal with nearly 130.000 QSOs achieved by 47 stations. This year we are aiming for the same target. So, participate in December YOTA Month, and help us to achieve this goal again in December 2020!

Tout le mois de décembre, plusieurs jeunes de moins de 26 ans deviendront actifs avec YOTA comme suffixe dans l’indicatif. L’idée derrière cela est de montrer le passe-temps de la radio amateur aux jeunes et d’encourager les jeunes à être actifs sur les ondes radio.
Habituellement, vous entendez les stations YOTA à l’antenne de nos camps d’été et sous-régionaux tout au long de l’année. Cette saison a été une exception. En raison de la pandémie mondiale de COVID-19, presque tous nos camps et événements ont dû être annulés. Par conséquent, presque aucune possibilité n’a été laissée pour entendre les stations YOTA sur les bandes.
Par conséquent, nous, en tant que Team YOTA, voulons montrer au monde que les jeunes veulent toujours et peuvent être actifs dans les groupes pendant cette période difficile. Aidez vos jeunes locaux à passer à l’antenne tout au long du mois de décembre YOTA en suivant vos directives nationales de santé. Soit vous êtes un elmer de soutien, soit vous-même moins de 26 ans, contactez le coordinateur jeunesse de votre société pour être actif avec votre indicatif national YOTA. Chaque opérateur radio amateur peut soutenir les jeunes du monde entier! En faisant un QSO avec eux, ils peuvent améliorer leurs compétences à l’antenne et en apprendre davantage sur la géographie et les abréviations des radios amateurs, entre autres. Les jeunes seront heureux d’attirer l’attention et d’échanger des informations. Les jeunes licenciés et non licenciés feront des QSO, sachez que cela pourrait être leur premier contact radio et leur donner une chance de faire l’expérience

NEWS UPDATE –
This operation was timely accepted toward OC-298 credits, and QSL cards were shipped from Sicily on Friday Nov 20. Huge thanks to Alfio (IT9EJW) for his sustained effort to design, print, plasticize, and have the cards shipped to me in record time. He was strongly committed to have it done even earlier, but I was very busy during the week following my return back home, so that additional delay was entirely on me.
Direct QSL cards will be mailed shortly after they’ll arrive here from the printing house. Meanwhile, all QSOs made by those stations that requested direct QSL cards or provided support for this project and made the log will be uploaded to LoTW on Dec 5, and enabled for QSO matching. Keep checking this website for future updates.

SEPTEMBER 20, 2020 – All our Arctic expeditions are very expensive. All the time, before each expedition, we always come up with something new and special to make your support of us more interesting and attractive. In this expedition we want to introduce a special QSL called “fast”. All “fast” QSLs will be sent out from the very first functioning post office on our way back. Most likely it will be in Khatanga settlement (UA0Q).
“Fast” QSL is a special designed postcard with a real 1987 year photograph of Preobrazheniya polar meteorological station (18 km from Bolshoy Begichev island) stamped by two stamps. The first one is the original 1987 year stamp found at Preobrazheniya station (closed in 1990 and abandoned). The second is a modern copy of this stamp made for our 2021 expedition. The cost of a QSL is $30. It can be paid via PayPal. See here. Those who wish to receive this exclusive card must order it prior to the expedition start. All others will receive traditional confirmation (OQRS, LoTW, Club Log). IOTA credit via Сlub Log will be opened 6 months after the end of the expedition.
JUNE 15, 2020 – Dates are not yet confirmed, however the Arctic Legends team (RT9K) recently received their RI0Q license with a view to being active from Bol’shoy Begichev AS-152 in early 2021.

Henry, NL0H got in touch to say he’s finally back on the air from St. Lawrence Island NA-040. This is now his main station and residence. QRV mainly on FT8 due to the amount of RF noise. Best band is 80m (less noise on that band). QSL via M0OXO. No scheduled contacts – just on the air now and then and probably quite a lot during this winter because of darkness and not getting outside so much.
