[NEWS UPDATE] – Building & testing antennas ahead of W8S – Swains Island DXpedition took place today. The full summary on how that went is here. Pictures credit Martin, PA4WM:

[MAY 17] – It’s happening: Swains 2023 is on! Although it was silent for quite some time, we were still working on the project and are happy that we can now announce that the contract with Alex Jennings is in our hands. Alex Jennings is the proprietor of Swains Island and providing the logistic support for the DXpedition.

The DXpedition to Swains Island will take place in the autumn of 2023. The governmental ship Manu’atela is booked for our trip.

We will arrive on Swains Island the 4th of October and will depart the 17th of October 2023.

Four new members are in our team because some couldn’t join due circumstances. The team still consist of 10 international operators. The operators are: DJ9RR (Heye), DL2AMD (Rainer), DL6JGN (Hans), KO8SCA (Adrian), NG7M (Max), PA2KW (Evert), PA3EWP (Ronald), PA4WM (Martin), PA5X (Johannes) and PG5M (Gerben).

Due to Covid and the global economic situation, our costs have increased considerably compared to 2020. The total cost has reached 125,000 euros, so we ask you to consider increasing your donation as well whenever possible!

In the meantime, we have been working on another antenna setup, focusing on the higher bands. We are preparing VDA’s for 10, 12, 15, 17 and 20 meters. We will have 2 additional radio’s active. With 6 stations running we can make more QSO’s and give more DXers an All Time New One.

Our camps are separated by approx. 500 meters, which will allow us to operate on some bands with 2 stations simultaneously.

Examens de l’IBPT

L’IBPT informe que le délai pour les examens est actuellement de 6 à 8 semaines. Les personnes souhaitant participer à un examen sont invitées à s’inscrire à temps.

L’inscription se fait de préférence par e-mail à  examen@bipt.be avec les détails suivants :

  • L’examen que vous souhaitez passer : radioamateur classe A (HAREC), radioamateur classe B (CEPT Novice) ou radioamateur classe C (licence de base).
  • Votre nom, prénom et adresse complète.

Vous devez joindre à cet e-mail une copie de votre carte d’identité (recto-verso) et, si vous vous inscrivez à l’examen classe C (licence de base), une copie du certificat d’examen pratique.

Dès qu’il sera en mesure de vous attribuer une date, l’IBPT vous en informera par e-mail.

L’attribution des dates d’examen se fait uniquement en fonction de l’ordre des inscriptions. Il n’est pas nécessaire de contacter l’IBPT par téléphone, car il n’attribuera pas de date antérieure de cette manière.

Pour l’instant, les examens radioamateurs sont organisés le dernier lundi de chaque mois, à l’exception de juillet 2023 (lundi 3 juillet).

En raison de l’affluence, les examens ne se dérouleront pour l’instant qu’à l’IBPT (Ellipse building C, Boulevard du Roi Albert II 35, 1030 Bruxelles) et aucun examen ne sera organisé à d’autres endroits.

Bulgarian Polar Research Vessel “Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodiy (RSV-421)”

The Bulgarian Polar Research Vessel “Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodiy (RSV-421)” is owned by a consortium consisting of the Naval Academy, the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia and the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute. The Sv. Sv.  In the way back home, the Bulgarian naval Research Vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) crossed the Ionian Sea along its southern boundary with the Mediterranean, sailing eastwards, in the evening hours of April 23, 2023.

Now the Polar ship is docked at   Bulgarian port city of Varna (on the Black Sea) after fully completing its participation in the 31st Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition to Livingston Island, Antarctica

With the sailing of the first military Research Vessel Sv. Sv.
