[NEWS UPDATE] – Holger, ZL3IO / ZL7IO writes:
Everything is packed and ready for my next trip to Chatham. The flight is on the 25th Sep and I will be there for one week. I have to work during the working days and we hopefully can improve on the antennas. The plan is to multiply the radials for both verticals. 6m showed some life the last week with openings to NA/CA & AS from ZL. May be we can get an antenna installed for a few QSO’s. We assume there is a need for ZL7 on 6m. The focus is to operate the CQWW DX SSB Contest as SO AB (single Op all bands). I have a KPA500 available this time but haven’t decided if I go low or high power. The solar flux was down the last few days. Conditions from ZL on hf were OKish but not as good as in September.
Jacek, SP5EAQ is already active from a beach house about 5 km away from our place. I look forward to meeting him soon. Below is a picture of his QTH and antenna.

[UPDATE] –
Two of our group members have been working hard to build antennas for all bands, 160 through 6. At this moment 10m VDA, 20m HEX and BigIR are finished and working. They will build 160m full size sloping vertical with radials, 80m ground plane with a loop radial, 40m zepp, 15m vertical dipole, and 6element Yagi for 6m.
They are still coping with some troubles with WSJT. But they should be resolved soon. The operations have been done during system test and antenna adjustments.
The rest of the group, 7 members, will arrive in V6 soon.
[BAND PLAN ADDED] – The Yokohama DX Club (YDXC) will operate from the Federated States of Micronesia as V6SX during October 21 through 31, 2023, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the club’s founding. They will participate in CQWW DX Contest SSB as V6Y. YDXC was founded in 1971, and the celebration of the 50th anniversary was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, 2023 is the 50th anniversary of their first DXpedition as KC6SX (then Moen Is., Truck Lagoon) which they operated in 1973, followed by 1974 and 1977.

Deux membres de notre groupe ont travaillé dur pour construire des antennes pour toutes les bandes, 160 à 6. En ce moment, 10 m VDA, 20 m HEX et BigIR sont terminés et fonctionnent. [QRT SOON] – On September 30th, Yuris started his activity on Tristan da Cunha. Fast-forward 3 weeks and today is his last day operating from the island. Over 70K QSOs in
his log. The MFV Edinburgh ship is scheduled to arrive tomorrow whereby Yuris will join it, taking six days voyage to arrive Cape Town, SA.

Last mid september 2023, a patrol from the Joint Antarctic Base Belgrano II (WAP ARG-Ø6) carried out a reconnaissance of the march route between the Belgrano 2 Base and the Sargento Roque Cisterna Refuge in the Little Wood Nunatak at 77°52’ South, 24°19’ West.
Once there, the group of Argentine Antarcticians have worked to install a VHF repeater. Argentines use a number of Refuges and Huts that serve a similar purpose to mountain refuges. They keep provisions in them constantly, repair them, and when the need arises for scientific research, small groups go to them and get to work. It is a very economical and valuable plan, and it’s another indication of the splendid work that the Argentines do in Antarctica.
In general, these small buildings are wooden cabins with food, beds, fuel (gas and naphtha), dog food, bathrooms and first aid kit.
Dependent on the Belgrano II Base (WAP ARG-Ø6) Refuge Sargento Roque Cisterna (WAP ARG-NEW) has been repaired in the 2016-2017 campaign and it was also part of the inspection plan 2021-2022
WAP hopes the next time another patrol going to visit the Refuge down there, a radio operator could join together! It would be very nice to put in our Hamradio log a QSO from this brand “New One” Refuge .

Mi-septembre 2023 dernier, une patrouille de la Base Commune Antarctique Belgrano II (WAP ARG-Ø6) a effectué une reconnaissance de l’itinéraire de marche entre la base Belgrano 2 et le Refuge Sargento Roque Cisterna dans le Little Wood Nunatak à 77°52′ Sud, 24° 19′ Ouest.
Une fois sur place, le groupe d’Antarctiques argentins a travaillé à l’installation d’un répéteur VHF. Les Argentins utilisent un certain nombre de refuges et de cabanes qui remplissent un objectif similaire à celui des refuges de montagne. Ils y conservent constamment des provisions, les réparent, et lorsque le besoin de recherche scientifique s’en fait sentir, de petits groupes s’y rendent et se mettent au travail. Il s’agit d’un plan très économique et précieux, et c’est une autre indication du travail splendide que les Argentins accomplissent en Antarctique.
En général, ces petits bâtiments sont des cabanes en bois avec de la nourriture, des lits, du carburant (gaz et naphta), de la nourriture pour chiens, des toilettes et une trousse de premiers secours.
Dépend de la Base Belgrano II (WAP ARG-Ø6) Refuge Sargento Roque Cisterna< /strong> (WAP ARG-NEW) a été réparé lors de la campagne 2016-2017 et faisait également partie du plan d’inspection 2021-2022

[NEWS UPDATE] –
We had an unexpected long power-cut. Sorry guys, we lost a low band shift because of this. The BOGs are working quite well from our site but sometimes we experience one-way conditions to EU.
On local Monday and Tuesday we have to pack and not all stations will be manned anymore. Tuesday, half of the team return to Germany with half of the equipment. That means no more 80 and 160m. Starting Tuesday we will operate with three stations. Two of them with amp. It seems the K3 for 6m had a receiving problem last days. It was swapped over. From Tuesday we will work on 20 to 6m and additional one band 30 or 40 or 60m on a daily change in CW, SSB, FT8 and RTTY.
[MISE À JOUR DES ACTUALITÉS] –
Nous avons eu une longue coupure de courant inattendue. Désolé les gars, nous avons perdu un décalage de bande basse à cause de cela. Les BOG fonctionnent plutôt bien depuis notre site, mais nous rencontrons parfois des conditions à sens unique vers l’UE.
Le lundi et le mardi locaux, nous devons faire nos valises et toutes les stations ne seront plus occupées. Mardi, la moitié de l’équipe rentre en Allemagne avec la moitié du matériel. Cela signifie plus de 80 et 160 m. À partir de mardi, nous fonctionnerons avec trois stations. Deux d’entre eux avec ampli. Il semblerait que le K3 pour 6m ait eu un problème de réception ces derniers jours. Il a été échangé. A partir de mardi nous travaillerons sur 20 à 6m et une bande supplémentaire 30 ou 40 ou 60m sur un changement quotidien en CW, SSB, FT8 et RTTY.
