ZS/ON9CFG South Africa

Bjorn, ON9CFG (the DX-World Weekly Bulletin editor) is currently working in Durban, South Africa for the next 4 weeks.
Although his spare time is very limited he hopes to be active on occasion as ZS/ON9CFG, and is looking to meet any locals for an eyeball QSO and some radio activity. Drop him an email if you’d like to help.

UPDATE – Previously signing as 5N7MSF, Jean-Louis has now been issued with the callsign 5N9JLH, and has been active on 20 SSB (try 14122).
MAY 15, 2021 – Yesterday a station signing 5N7MSF was working on 20m SSB. The operator is Jean-Louis, ZS6AAG (previously C91MSF, TT8JLB, 3DA0MW) who works for Medecins Sans Frontiers (Doctors Without Borders) and is based in Abuja until mid-September 2021. His previous activities have all been via eQSL.

15 MAI 2021 – Hier, une station signant 5N7MSF travaillait sur 20m SSB. L’opérateur est Jean-Louis, ZS6AAG

Due to Covid-19 pandemic, I am still stuck in Fiji on the way to Tonga for more than 1 month. Since I departed Narita/Tokyo on 14th April 2021, and entered Fiji as the last transit to Tonga, I have spent 2 weeks MIQ here. However, Tonga closed its airport for flights from Fiji starting 30th April until situation in Fiji improves. I will update as soon as new schedule decided.
APRIL 2, 2021 – Masa, JA0RQV will QRV again from Tongatapu (OC-049) as A35JP from May to October 2021.
This time, he will be stationed there as a resident supervisor of an international cooperation project.
- Band/Mode: 80m-6m. CW, SSB, FT8.
- Equipment: IC-7300 100W/Vertical.
- QSL info: LoTW/Club Log.
During the period, if possible, he will try to activate some of the outer islands again such as Niuatoputapu (OC-191), Niuafo’ou (OC-123), Vava’u (OC-064) and Ha’apai (OC-169). More details announced once decided.

En raison de la pandémie de Covid-19, je suis toujours coincé aux Fidji sur le chemin des Tonga pendant plus d’un mois. Depuis que j’ai quitté Narita/Tokyo le 14 avril 2021
et suis entré aux Fidji comme dernier transit vers Tonga, j’ai passé 2 semaines MIQ ici. Cependant, les Tonga ont fermé leur aéroport pour les vols en provenance de Fidji à partir du 30
avril jusqu’à ce que la situation aux Fidji s’améliore. Je mettrai à jour dès que le nouveau calendrier sera décidé.
2 AVRIL 2021 – Masa, JA0RQV sera à nouveau QRV depuis Tongatapu (OC-049) en tant que A35JP de mai à octobre 2021.
Cette fois, il y sera en poste en tant que superviseur résident d’un projet de coopération internationale.
- Bande / Mode: 80m-6m. CW, SSB, FT8.
- Équipement : IC-7300 100W/Vertical.
- Informations QSL : LoTW/Log du club.

NEWS UPDATE by Steve, VK6SJ
I will be active from VK9XX from the 28th May for between two and three weeks but I’ll be working on the island so not on 24/7. I will be taking a Yaesu FT-857D and a simple Sotabeams antennas plus an ATAS mobile vertical. I will also be barefoot. This will also be mostly outside working hours and focused on the night time bands and mainly FT8. My first priority will be work and I doubts that I will have any time during the day so any requests for operation during the day are unlikely to be filled.
QSL for this operation will be via EB7DX. David did a stirling job on VK9CE and very happy to have him back on this operation.
The plan is to operate a separate band each night (I don’t want to go out and change the antenna at night!) Caveat here is that if I have a dead band, I will change band rather than call into nothing.
Expected hours of operation will be 1100Z-1500Z and 2200-0000Z each day. If I get ahead of schedule in my work, I may squeeze in a day off, in which I will see if I can tune up the dipole on 6m, 10m & 15m during the day.
APRIL 15, 2021 – Steve, VK6SJ got in touch with the following info for DX-World readers about an upcoming trip to Christmas Island during May 7-25, 2021.
I will be working whilst on the island so operation will be evenings and early mornings only. Radio will be simple; FT-857D transceiver, barefoot with wire antennas and possibly a vertical. Operations will be focused on 80, 40 & 30m. Mainly FT8 operation. The antennas will favour mainly North and the West, as I will be in the main town area of the island which is towards the top of the side of a mountain. VK9XX is the club callsign of the Christmas Island Amateur Radio Club, of which I am a member. QSL will be via EB7DX.

Je serai actif depuis VK9XX à partir du 28 mai pendant deux à trois semaines mais je travaillerai sur l’île donc pas 24h/24 et 7j/7. Je prendrai un Yaesu FT-857D et une
simple antenne Sotabeams plus une verticale mobile ATAS. Je serai également pieds nus. Ce sera aussi majoritairement en dehors des heures de travail et focalisé sur les bandes de nuit et

Le plan est d’exploiter une bande distincte chaque nuit (je ne veux pas sortir et changer d’antenne la nuit!). Attention, si j’ai une bande morte, je changerai de bande plutôt que
d’appeler rien.Les heures d’ouverture prévues seront de 1100Z-1500Z et de 2200-0000Z chaque jour. Si je prends une longueur d’avance dans mon travail, je peux avoir un jour de congé, pendant lequel je
verrai si je peux régler le dipôle sur 6m, 10m et 15m pendant la journée.
15 AVRIL 2021 – Steve, VK6SJ a pris contact avec les informations suivantes pour les lecteurs de DX-World au sujet d’un prochain voyage sur l’île Christmas du 7 au 25 mai 2021.
Je travaillerai sur l’île, donc l’opération se fera uniquement le soir et tôt le matin. La radio sera simple; Émetteur-récepteur FT-857D, pieds nus avec antennes filaires et
éventuellement vertical. Les opérations seront concentrées sur 80, 40 et 30 m. Fonctionnement principalement FT8. Les antennes privilégieront principalement le nord et l’ouest, car je serai
dans la zone principale de la ville de l’île qui se trouve vers le sommet du flanc d’une montagne. VK9XX est l’indicatif du club du Christmas Island Amateur Radio Club, dont je suis membre.
QSL se fera via EB7DX.
