Nice pileup last night in 7189 where Sebastian SQ1SGB tested the new antenna just installed at Halley VI Base (WAP GBR-40). VP8/SQ1SGB came in with a fairly good stable signal, from S-5 to S-7. Seba sent a couple of photos of his multiband antenna well placed between two pylons in the ice. Check 40 meters from 22:00 GMT onwards. According to Seba, yesterday at 23.00 utc the band was open to the US, Russia, North, Central and South America with a lot of pileup. QSL via EB7DX.

DECEMBER 13 – A Formal Complaint to the Falklands Islands Communications Regulator regarding VP8/SQ1SGB’s amateur radio operation in Antarctica has been made. Read here for the info.

OCTOBER 11, 2021 – Seba, SQ1SGB will again be active from Halley VI(a) Base, Antarctica as VP8/SQ1SGB starting November 18, 2021 and staying until January 31, 2022. During his stay, building of a rhobmic antenna (primarily for aircraft comms on 40m) is planned. This was also allow Seba to transmit on that band when time permits. Check 7190. QSL via EB7DX.

Joli pileup hier soir au 7189 où Sebastian SQ1SGB a testé la nouvelle antenne qui vient d’être installée à Halley VI Base (WAP GBR-40). VP8/SQ1SGB est arrivé avec un assez bon signal stable, de S-5 à S-7. Seba a envoyé quelques photos de son antenne multibande bien placée entre deux pylônes dans la glace. Vérifiez 40 mètres à partir de 22h00 GMT. Selon Seba, hier à 23h00 utc, le groupe était ouvert aux États-Unis, à la Russie, à l’Amérique du Nord, centrale et du Sud avec beaucoup de carambolages. Le 13 DÉCEMBRE – Une plainte officielle a été déposée auprès du régulateur des communications des îles Falklands concernant les opérations de radio amateur de VP8/SQ1SGB en Antarctique. Lire ici pour les infos.

Le 11 OCTOBRE, 2021 – Seba, SQ1SGB sera à nouveau actif à partir de
Halley VI(a) Base, l’Antarctique en utilisant l’indicatif VP8/SQ1SGB à partir du 18 novembre 2021 et jusqu’au 31 janvier 2022. Durant son séjour, construction d’une antenne rhobmique
(principalement pour les communications des avions sur 40m) est prévu. Cela a également permis à Seba de transmettre sur cette bande lorsque le temps le permet. Vérifiez 7190. QSL via EB7DX.

NEWS UPDATE – Thanks to Mehdi, F5PFP for the following news update and pics.

David FT4YM/P has completed his work at Little Dome C and is now back to Concordia. Unfortunately, a machine generated a S8 QRM and the power supply only provided 11V forcing him to use 50watts; that’s why he only made a dozen QSOs in 2days. He said “Headphones on my head, I gave auditory reports through a S8 QRM level, it was just like hell but I have made my best”.

DECEMBER 12, 2021 – Here’s a preview of both the FT4YM and FT4YM/P QSL cards.

NOVEMBER 16 – David has recently been active on 20 SSB (check 14133 or 14140 time to time) from Base Concordia. In early to mid-December, he will move to Base Little Dome C.

David FT4YM/P a terminé son travail au Little Dome C et est maintenant de retour à Concordia. Malheureusement, une machine générait un S8 QRM et l’alimentation ne fournissait que du 11V l’obligeant à utiliser 50watts ; c’est pourquoi il n’a fait qu’une dizaine de QSO en 2 jours. Il a dit : « Des écouteurs sur la tête, j’ai donné des rapports auditifs via un niveau S8 QRM, c’était comme l’enfer mais j’ai fait de mon mieux ».

Le 16 NOVEMBRE – David a récemment été actif sur le 20 SSB (vérifiez de temps à autre 14133 ou 14140) depuis la base Concordia. De début à mi-décembre, il déménagera à la Base Little Dome C.

NEWS UPDATE – Almost a year down the line from the previous DP1POL update, Felix DL5XL is again active (has been since end of December) from Neumayer Station III. QRV on mainly 15 & 30m CW & FT8. Jürgen, DL9SBT is also there as a Technician.

NOVEMBER 22 NEWS UPDATE by Felix, DL5XL

Organizing an Antarctic expedition in the times of COVID19 is quite a challenge, so the German polar institute (AWI) had to find a different approach to the logistics for the upcoming Antarctic summer season. All transports will be carried out by ship directly from Germany. There is only a small team of about 20 technicians and scientists travelling to Neumayer Station, Antarctica, this year. YL Theresa (DC1TH) and Felix (DL5XL) will be part of that group.

During the voyage, from December 20 for about one month, Felix will operate as DP0POL/MM from the research ice breaker “Polarstern”, mainly in CW and digital modes. From mid-January to mid-March 2021, DL5XL expects to be active from the research station “Neumayer III” signing DP1POL.

The ham station in Antarctica is equipped for HF and QO-100 satellite. Club call DP0GVN may also be used at times by other operators.

QSL manager for DP0POL/mm and DP0GVN is DL5EBE, QSL cards for DP1POL will be handled by DL1ZBO (direct, bureau or LotW for all call signs).
