[NEWS UPDATE] Dave G4WXJ, Chris PA2CHR & Jos PA3FYC will be active as ZC4RH from SBA Cyprus during 10 – 19 November 2022. QSL via DK6SP.

[JUNE 14] – QSLs now available via Philipp DK6SP (until now only June 2022 trip). Both Dave & Philipp are working to digitalize old paper logs and bring them online on Club Log and LoTW as well. Though, this process will take time. See more here about QSLing.

JUNE 12 – Dave ZC4RH had big success with his newly installed 6m antenna today. He was able to work all over Europe while the screen never changed its color from red. Sorry to all who did not make it into his log yet.

70 MHz was not really open today and he hopes that conditions will improve soon. Further, ZC4RH could be worked on QO100 satellite today. He will be QRV there in the next days again as well.

Due to the very high demand on 70 and 50 MHz he will be continuing his operation on VHF for another few days. Thus, expect more activity from him on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

Keep in mind that for this activity both 4m and 6m are run just on dipoles using around 50 Watts each band. During evenings he will be QRV mainly in FT8/CW on shortwave.

JUNE 11 – Dave ZC4RH started being active on 4m today with some good openings towards Europe from UK SBA on Cyprus (KM64VX). The 4m equipment was generously lent by 5B4AIE and delivered to the QTH by DK6SP.

Dave plans to be QRV on 4m and 6m again tomorrow, Sunday – 12th June 2022, in CW/SSB/FT8 conditions permitting. Equipment is a horizontal dipole each band about 10m over ground and about 50 Watts.

He will stay on the island until Thursday, 16th June, operating HF bands. (Thanks to DK6SP for this update).

MAY 30 – Dave, G4WXJ will again be active from the UK Sovereign Base Areas of Cyprus as ZC4RH during June 5-15, 2022. QRV on 40-10m; CW, SSB, FT8 (QO-100). QSL via LoTW, buro/direct. Side trip as 5B/G4WXJ also planned.

12 JUIN – Dave ZC4RH a eu un grand succès avec son antenne de 6 m nouvellement installée aujourd’hui. Il a pu travailler dans toute l’Europe alors que l’écran n’a jamais changé sa couleur du rouge. Désolé pour tous ceux qui ne sont pas encore entrés dans son journal.

70 MHz n’était pas vraiment ouvert aujourd’hui et il espère que les conditions s’amélioreront bientôt. De plus, ZC4RH pourrait être travaillé sur le satellite QO100 aujourd’hui. Il y sera également QRV dans les prochains jours.

En raison de la très forte demande sur 70 et 50 MHz, il poursuivra son opération sur VHF pendant encore quelques jours. Attendez-vous donc à plus d’activité de sa part les lundi, mardi et mercredi matin.

Gardez à l’esprit que pour cette activité, les 4 m et 6 m fonctionnent uniquement sur des dipôles utilisant environ 50 watts par bande. Pendant les soirées, il sera QRV principalement en FT8/CW sur ondes courtes.

11 JUIN – Dave ZC4RH a commencé à être actif sur 4m aujourd’hui avec quelques bonnes ouvertures vers l’Europe depuis UK SBA sur Chypre (KM64VX). L’équipement de 4m a été généreusement prêté par 5B4AIE et livré au QTH par DK6SP.

Dave prévoit d’être à nouveau QRV sur 4m et 6m demain, dimanche – 12 juin 2022, dans les conditions CW/SSB/FT8 le permettant. L’équipement est un dipôle horizontal chaque bande à environ 10 m au-dessus du sol et environ 50 watts.

Il restera sur l’île jusqu’au jeudi 16 juin, exploitant les bandes HF. (Merci à DK6SP pour cette mise à jour).

30 MAI – Dave, G4WXJ sera à nouveau actif depuis les zones de souveraineté britannique de Chypre en tant que ZC4RH pendant 5-15 juin 2022. QRV sur 40-10m ; CW, SSB, FT8 (QO-100). QSL via LoTW, buro/direct. Déplacement parallèle en tant que 5B/G4WXJ également prévu.

W.A.P. Worldwide Antarctic Program

Visiting Antarctica is something that most people in the world can only dream about.

Meet  27 years old  Eng. Sarabjeet Singh Chhabra (Sunny), a young explorer, who’s not only achieved his dream of visiting the white continent but is going to work there for a year as part of the 42nd Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica.

So, VU2CUW is one of the  Team member of the 42 ISEA and he is very grateful to NCPOR for giving him and the Worldwide Ham radio community a chance to work  and log  the Indian Base in Antarctica, to improve his personal knowledge in testing  HF ionospheric propagation conditions from the Icy Continent.

He will be accompanying the team to either Bharati (WAP IND-Ø4) or Maitri (WAP IND-Ø3) Stations in Antarctica in the capacity of Radio Operator. He is an Amateur Radio Operator and goes by the nickname “Sunny”. His Amateur Radio Operator callsign is VU2CUW, one of the youngest members of the contingent and garnered the coveted spot after several rounds of screening and interviews.

Apart from Radios, he works with CNC machining, 3D designing, 3D printing, PCB designing and fabrication, antenna design, and manufacturing. He will be using an antenna designed and fabricated by himself, while in Antarctica. He owns his own start-up called “Hobbytivity” which makes Antenna equipment for HAM Radio Operators all over the world.

He has always been fascinated by the Polar regions and hopes to visit the North Pole someday.

Rigs has been already sent to NCPOR to be delivered to Antarctica.

Outre les radios, il travaille avec l’usinage CNC, la conception 3D, l’impression 3D, la conception et la fabrication de PCB, la conception d’antennes et
fabrication. Il utilisera une antenne conçue et fabriquée par lui-même, alors qu’il se trouve en Antarctique. Il possède sa propre start-up appelée ‘Hobbytivity’
qui fabrique des équipements d’antenne pour les opérateurs de radio amateur du monde entier.

Il a toujours été fasciné par les régions polaires et espère un jour visiter le pôle Nord.

Les plates-formes ont déjà été envoyées à NCPOR pour être livrées en Antarctique.

Chris, VK2YUS is again active from Port Vila, Efate Island, Vanuatu as YJ0CA. Length of stay unknown but previous activities have all lasted one week. (He started activity today). He uses a 1/4 wave vertical with elevated radials for 40m, and various dipoles & verticals for other bands. QSL via H/c.

Our agent advises that our sea cargo shipped to Cocos has arrived at its destination. Final preparations are now under way in Melbourne and Perth for the team’s departure from Perth on 25th October.

The NA – Cocos Keeling path is notoriously difficult. We are therefore committed to investing extra time and effort to secure as many QSOs as possible from this part of the world.

The team members look forward to contacting as many of you around the globe as possible. We will do our best to provide news updates as often as we can.

Neumayer III Station WAP DEU-Ø8:

Felix DL5XL send some more details on the German activity.

DPØGVN is currently active with operator, Karsten DM2KX, a member of the 2022 wintering team. He will be followed by Markus DK7DA who will stay for the entire winter of 2023.

DP1POL is not active right now;  Felix will be active during the Antarctic summer, from mid-December 2022 to the end of January 2023, as DP1POL as usual. QSL routes have not changed: DPØGVN via DL5EBE, DP1POL via DL1ZBO.

DPØPOL/mm is also on the air irregularly from I/B Polarstern. Operators are Andy DL3LRM and Jörg DJ0HO. There is regular activity from DPØGVN and DP0POL/mm on QO-100 satellite, see https://amsat-dl.org/en/dp0pol-mm-permanently-accessible-via-qo-100/ for the latest news.

Answering the question about Gondwana Station (WAP DEU-Ø4) and Dallmann Laboratory  (WAP DEU-Ø7 QSL aside), Felix said:

«Gondwana is operated by BGR, it has absolutely no connection to our Institute. Dallmann will be closing down permanently soon, so I do not think there is a chance to activate those!»

India: Antarctic campaign 2022-2023

VU2CUW , Sarabjeet S. “Sarab” Chhabra , 25 years old electronics and communications engineer currently working as a design engineer for a CNC Machinist  is joining the Indian Antarctic campaign 2022-2023.
VU2CUW  got his Amateur Radio Operator License in 2015 and since then he  have been very active on VHF, UHF and HF managing Radio Nets.

Sarab  designs and homebrew antennas and has done a lot of field operations. He also worked on a satellite building project during one of his jobs at Hyderabad where he was working as a RF Engineer.

We expert to work VU2CUW who have already applied for a special callsign to be used while in Antarctica.

At the moment it has not been decided to which Base (Maitri  WAP IND-Ø3 or Bharati WAP IND-Ø4) he will operate from.

Inde : Campagne Antarctique 2022-2023

‘Sarab’ Chhabra , ingénieur en électronique et communication de 25 ans travaillant actuellement comme ingénieur de conception pour un machiniste CNC  rejoint la campagne antarctique indienne 2022-2023.
VU2CUW a obtenu sa licence d’opérateur radio amateur en 2015 et depuis lors, il a été très actif sur les réseaux radio VHF, UHF et HF.

Sarab  conçoit des antennes homebrew et a effectué de nombreuses opérations sur le terrain. Il a également travaillé sur un projet de construction de satellites pendant l’un de ses emplois à Hyderabad, où il travaillait en tant qu’ingénieur RF.

Nous sommes experts pour travailler avec VU2CUW qui ont déjà demandé un indicatif spécial à utiliser en Antarctique.

Pour le moment, il n’a pas été décidé à quelle Base (Maitri  WAP IND-Ø3 ou Bharati WAP IND-Ø4) à partir duquel il opérera.
