NEWS UPDATE – Helge, JX/LB4MI now reaching the end of his stay, and has a very busy schedule before leaving Jan Mayen on the 5th of October. So expect less activity on the bands. He mentions the following info regarding QSLs:
I will close the “Jan Mayen-option” for direct QSL-cards on 21st of September, and when I arrive home I will open again for requesting the official QSL-card; direct and buro. So if you want the Jan Mayen postcard + rubber stamps from the island, you must request before 21st of September. Post card QSL-service” via OQRS still active. Last shipment is 28th of September. Last OQRS request is 21st of September. All received buro cards will be replied before Christmas 2022 for free.
JUNE 12 – Helge reports that today (June 12th) he put up a 6M antenna and made some QSO’s. The antenna is a double bazooka dipole from Wimo. He says he’s not that familiar with FT8.

We recently read this article over on QRZ.com and repost here out of general interest and perhaps some help for the group in question:
We are a group of amateur operators resident in Cambodia and up until 2020 we renewed our Cambodia Amateur Certificates every year. In 2020 the Telecommunications Regulator of Cambodia (TRC) introduced the new requirement to only renew certificates for hams with a transceiver that had a Cambodia Type Approval (TA). At the moment there is no Cambodia TA for an amateur transceiver. As the TA process looks to be quite expensive, we have decided to just apply for the Yaesu FT-891. We have provided the TRC with the Conformity Certificates from the rear of the American and European FT-891 Manuals, together with other information, but they require more information including the TA Test Results for 1) EMC Test report, 2) Health and Safety Test reports & 3) Radio Frequency Test Report.
We have approached Yaesu in Japan and they say they cannot supply the TRC with the TA Test results and at present there is no facility in Cambodia able to carry out the tests. We have been trying to obtain these docs for the TRC but so far have been unable. As a result, the resident amateurs here and any visiting hams have been unable to renew their Cambodia Amateur Certificates.
Would any QRZ members know of where we might obtain a copy of the FT-891 test results? We ourselves don’t need to see them and if they are available, they would just need to be sent directly to the below:

[AUGUST 24] Look for Alex UT5UY to be active from the Aland Islands as OH0/UT5UY during Thursday (Aug 25) and Friday (Aug 26). Check 14.027 CW. His first operating stint from Finland as OH/UT5UY was a success yesterday and more than 300 mostly U.S stations were logged.
You need to work Alex from OH, OH0 and OJ0 to qualify for NGU- award (Never Give Up!) Please use “NGU” as part of your exchange!

Radio amateurs have been and currently are, a primary help since the birth of WAP. Thanks to them we have been able to put in the Directory, many Antarctic sites brought “On Air” by radio amateurs.
This is confirmed today by this new entry KC4USY Ross Island Field Camp (aka McMurdo Sound) at 77°50’North, 166°40’East.
On the rear side of KC4USY’s QSL, we can read a note reported by Richard F Przywitowski WAØSHZ , Ski (WAØSHZ) was the operator of KC4USY:
KC4USY, on Ross Island, was active from March to October 1968.
Near this QTH is McMurdo Station and Mt. Erebus, one of the few active volcanoes in Antarctica. Adelie and Emperor penguins, seals and skua gulls are the only wildlife in the area. Temperatures range from plus 30° to minus 40° F. over the year; high winds being common to the QTH, our highest of the year was recorded at 101 knots.
The purpose of the site was to monitor and record geophysical phenomena which are associated with the upper atmosphere. Areas of interest were optical emissions of the sky, aurora study, ultra-low frequency recording and Doppler shift detection of known RF sources.
Antarctica being an unique location for these studies, thus our being there. Only469contacts were made by KC4USY, power generally being less 75 watts.

They were on Ross Island some distance (about 3 to 6 miles) from McMurdo Station (77°50’53” North,166°40’06” East). They were only there for a short time, back then they would go out and set up summer camps for a month or two. Then break them down.
I was in a QSO with Willy Field one night when a crew member came into the shack and told the op to come outside. A penguin had walking into camp and Willy Field was 200 miles from the water. They backtracked his tracks and found another set of tracks just outside the camp that went around the camp. They followed them and found the lone penguin . Both were put on a C 54 and flown out to the coast later that week. 73 Tony WA4JQS
